Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the late Madan Mohan Malaviya, educationist and freedom fighter, were chosen for the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honour, on Wednesday. The announcement from Rashtrapati Bhavan was made ahead of Vajpayee’s birthday on Thursday, and the 153rd birth anniversary of Malaviya.

A Bharat Ratna for Pandit Malviya, a freedom fighter and the founder of the Benaras Hindu University was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his election campaign.

Mr. Vajpayee will be the seventh Prime Minister to receive the award, while Pandit Malviya will be the 12th person to be honoured posthumously.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed delight at the announcement. "Bharat Ratna being conferred on Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya and Atal Bihari Vajpayee is a matter of great delight. Country's highest honour to these illustrious stalwarts is a fitting recognition of their service to the Nation. Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya is remembered as a phenomenal scholar and freedom fighter who lit the spark of national consciousness among people. Atal ji means so much to everyone. A guide, inspiration and giant among giants. His contribution to India is invaluable," the Prime Minister said.

An attack by the Taliban on a school in Peshawar is being seen as one of the worst-ever in Pakistan. 

In the deadliest slaughter of innocents in Pakistan in years, Taliban gunmen attacked a military-run school Tuesday and killed 141 people — almost all of them students — before government troops ended the siege. The massacre of innocent children horrified a country already weary of unending terrorist attacks. 

A spokesman for the Taliban tells the BBC that militants have attacked the army-run school in response to military operations in North Waziristan and the Khyber area.

The rampage at the Army Public School and College began in the morning when seven militants scaled a back wall using a ladder. When they reached an auditorium where students had gathered for an event, they opened fire.

The government declared three days of mourning for what appeared to be Pakistan’s deadliest since a 2007 suicide bombing in the port city of Karachi killed 150 people.

According to Barack Obama’s physician, the US President is suffering from acid reflux. The test was done after Obama complained of a sore throat. 

Acid reflux is a condition in which the stomach contents flow back up from the stomach into the esophagus, causing such symptoms as heartburn and sore throat.

Meanwhile, the medical condition of Obama has triggered reports that spicy Indian food , including Gujarati savories like dhokla and theplas, will no more be a part of the menu when the US President visits New Delhi for India's Republic Day in January.

Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes died in a Sydney hospital on Thursday from a "catastrophic" injury to his head, two days after being struck by a delivery during a domestic first-class match. He collapsed on the pitch and underwent emergency surgery at nearby hospital, remaining in a critical condition in an induced coma until his death. He was 25.

Hughes is the second cricket player in the last two years to die from being struck in the head by a ball, according to the AP. 32-year-old Darryn Randall died last year during a Border Cricket Board Premier League match.

The decision that Education Minister Smriti Irani has taken in national interest asks the Kendriya Vidyalayas or central schools in India to drop German as an alternative to Sanskrit as a third language.

On the controversial decision to replace German with Sanskrit as the third language in some 500 centrally-run Kendriya Vidyalayas, Irani said that teaching of German under an MoU signed in 2011 had been in violation of the Constitution. An investigation has already been launched to find out how the MoU came to be signed.

The reason cited is a three language policy - Hindi, English and Sanskrit or a modern Indian language. Since the decision comes in the middle of a school year, it’s a double whammy for the kids - they have to stop their favourite German and opt for Sanskrit. With other subjects already burdening them, this is an unnecessary stress that our HRD minister has imposed on them. If they still want to study German, they can do it as a hobby language.

About 68,000 students of class 6 to 8, likely to be affected by the decision, will be given an option to pick the language of their choice as annual exams are barely three months away. The KVs will provide counselling to the students. 

In a globalized world of education and opportunities, students should be allowed to choose language of their own choice. All over the world, kids are encouraged to learn foreign languages that will expand their future possibilities. So idea of Hobby Language holds good for any foreign language and third language should be Indian language only.

Kim Kardashian, 34-year-old American who shot to fame with popular television series Keeping Up With The Kardashians, was supposed to make a trip to India to promote her new fragrance Fleur Fatale. and appear in Salman Khan-hosted reality show Bigg Boss 8, Unfortunately, her trip has been cancelled as failed to obtain a visa in time

The deal with Kardashian, who is married to the rapper Kanye West and has a one-year-old daughter, appears to have been worked out at the last minute following the publication of a photo shoot last week, in which she posed nude, and which received significant attention on Indian social media.

Finally police arrest ‘Godman’ Rampal , ending the nearly two-week standoff between his supporters and security personnel, which escalated into violence and high drama on Tuesday.

Rampal's ashram at Barwala in Hisar is spread over an area of 12 acres. The ashram complex had a 20-feet wall all around for fortification. It was this wall that the security forces found hard to penetrate when they tried to enter the complex on Tuesday. Ashram followers claimed that Rampal had made provisions for being bathed in milk while he meditated and the same milk was used to prepare kheer (rice-based sweet), which was served to the followers saying this will bring happiness in their lives. Rampal is believed to have been living in this five-storey house in one part of the ashram complex which was secured from the rest of the area. The building was also home to his close aides.

Amul Girl in Dikri style ask to eat drink and JIYO Parsi

The Parsi community is one of the most peace loving and god fearing communities. The Parsis are followers of one of the oldest, if not the oldest revealed religion in the world - Zoroastrianism. Globally, as a community, the Parsis number barely a hundred thousand and its on decline so JIYO Parsi campaign started.

A new advertisement campaign, launched as part of the central Indian government's Jiyo Parsi ("Jiyo" means "to live") scheme, has raised many eyebrows. The scheme, run by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, is aimed at increasing the size of the financial capital Mumbai's Parsi community, which currently stands at 40,000. Some of the ads, professionally produced, have text telling young men to "break up" with their mothers and to multiply. The ads pose tongue-in-cheek advice and questions.

This government led programme, Jiyo Parsi, intends to use medical technology to boost the population of the fast shrinking Parsi community. It also created some buzz on Twitter.

The Mudgal report came out earlier this month and has found ICC chairman and sidelined BCCI president N Srinivasan not guilty of either betting or fixing, or of having tried to prevent the investigation into the IPL 2013 corruption scandal. It has mentioned that Srinivasan and four other BCCi official knew about an IPL player violating the code of conduct, but took no action. The name of the player and the details of the IPL code of conduct violation are not yet specified.

Kohli had arrived in England with a big reputation, having doing very well in all three formats of the game. But he failed miserably with the bat, scoring just 134 runs (2 ducks) in 10 innings. India's vice-captain Virat Kohli was given permission for his high-profile girlfriend Anushka Sharma to accompany him during the first few Tests against England, is now getting linked to distraction. 

As per team manager Sunil Dev was quoted as saying that "I would have objected to her presence, but was helpless when I realised that permission was granted by BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) secretary Sanjay Patel."

After India's humiliating loss 3-1 test series loss to England, the BCCI has decided that it will take some harsh action against the long stay by players' wives and girlfriends. The BCCI has decided that girlfriends won't be allowed on tours anymore, while wives can also only stay for a limited period of time.

While it's perfectly fair to say that spousal activities must take a backseat during a tour, it does seem a little unfair that the board decided not to spell this out at the beginning of the series itself. To say that the team couldn't hit the nets and thus eventually lost, because the women were being clingy, sounds a little clichéd.

Rumour has it that Anushka Sharma is completely upset for being blamed for her alleged boyfriend Virat Kohli’s dismal performance in the series against England. Apparently, some people from the cricket fraternity suggested that Virat was distracted by his ladylove and could not concentrate on his game.

Interestingly, sources close to the actress suggest that Anushka wasn't distracted when Virat visited her on the sets of Dil Dhadakne Do and so, she is not ready to be blamed for a distraction she didn't cause.

Oscar-winning British film director Richard Attenborough has died at the age of 90.

Lord Attenborough was one of Britain's leading actors, before becoming a highly successful director. As a director he was perhaps best known for Gandhi, which won him two Oscars in 1983 claiming eight Academy awards - a record for a British film - including best director.

His best known films as an actor included Brighton Rock, The Great Escape and Jurassic Park. His director's CV included A Bridge Too Far, Gandhi, for which he won Academy Awards as director and producer, in 1982, and Cry Freedom, about the death of South African anti-apartheid campaigner Steven Biko.

Amul Girl inspired by Ice bucket challenge taking butter bucket challenge.

The ice bucket challenge became great support for a social cause by pouring a bucket full of Ice water created buzz around the world. Celebrities from different field all over world participated in it and our own Amul Girl is also becoming part of it with slice butter bucket challenge.

It's an effort to raise awareness of ALS where participants must dump a bucket of ice cold water and then dare someone to do the same. If they can't, the alternative is to donate $100 to the ALS association.

The internet has gone viral with videos of celebrities and other popular personalities taking the "Ice Bucket challenge" and daring three others to do the same.

The ice bucket challenge went viral on social media after a US baseball player and ALS patient, Pete Frates, floated the idea of the challenge in a video on a social networking site. He got the idea from a friend.

More than 1.2 million videos were shared on Facebook between June 1 and August 13. The challenge was mentioned more than 2.2 million times on Twitter since July 29, after Frates' appeal. According to the ALS website, it has so far received nearly $23 million.

Amul Girl gives Tribute to great Yoga Guru BKS Iyengar in her own style by doing some Aasaan. His followers and student across the globe paying him tribute. 

World renowned yoga exponent B.K.S. Iyengar passed away at a private hospital in Pune on early Wednesday morning. He was 95. 

Born Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar in Karnataka’s Kolar district in 1918 and debilitated by illnesses since his childhood, he codified Patanjali’s yoga sutras in an innovatively dynamic yoga style which came to be known as Iyengar Yoga, winning millions of followers in more than 70 countries of the globe in the process.

He set forth its principles in Light on Yoga (1966), which has since been regarded as the bible of yoga. The book has been translated into 19 languages and has sold more than three million copies.

The Iyengar Yoga National Association of the U.S. (IYNAUS) is calling on its members (approximately 1,000 certified teachers in the U.S., a small percentage of the more than 50,000 teachers currently registered) across the country to “hold Guruji in your hearts” and practice a sequence together in his memory on Tuesday, August 26 at 8:30 pm EST

Amul Girl farewell with good luck butter to Mahela Jayawardene.

Mahela Jayawardene signed off on a high as he finished his Test career with a 2-0 series sweep over Pakistan. He also scored a fine fifty in his last innings as a Sri Lankan Test cricketer and helped the side amass a massive total, one that Pakistan couldn't overcome. 

The marvelous right-hander finished his career with 149 Tests, 11814 runs with an average of 49.84. He has 34 hundreds and 50 fifties to his name. He also ended up with 205 catches, 5 behind Rahul Dravid, who holds the record for the most catches in a career.

After debacle in recent Test series in England discussion is picking for a new Indian test captain?

Mahendra Singh Dhoni told reporters to “wait and watch” when asked whether he would quit as India’s Test captain after the debacle at the Oval. Despite his fighting 82 in the first innings of India’s worst Test defeat in England in 40 years, he has well and truly outlived his usefulness as a captain in the long form of the game.

Statistically, Dhoni still remains India’s most successful Indian Test captain. His win-loss record of 27 Test wins to 17 losses, compares favourably with Saurav Ganguly’s score of 21-13. Yet the fact is that under Dhoni, India have lost 13 and won only 1 of their last 17 overseas Tests.

Dhoni has now had six years at the helm, longer than every other Indian captain, with the exception of Pataudi, and is running out of steam.

Last month Former Australia captain Ian Chappell said he does not find MS Dhoni good enough to be India's Test captain, saying he was past his prime as far as leading the side and it was right time to hand the reins of the team to Virat Kohli.
