A sensational display from James Rodriguez fired Colombia into the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time on Saturday with the attacking midfielder scoring twice in a 2-0 victory over Uruguay including a contender for goal of the tournament.

Jim Boyce, Britain's FIFA vice-president and head of FIFA's referees committee said: "I have watched the incident several times on television. "There is no doubt Luis Suarez is a fantastic footballer but, once again, his actions have left him open to severe criticism.

It is the latest incident in a string of high profile controversies for Luis Suarez, who bit Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic at the end of the 2012/13 Premier League season.

In a partial rollback, the Railways on Tuesday announced that the recent hike of 14.2 per cent in passenger fares will not apply to second class suburban journey upto 80 kms, a decision that will give relief to lakhs of travellers mainly in metro cities.

In a revised order, the Railways also said that the fare hike in the unreserved segment shall come into force from June 28 as against June 25 when the increase will be implemented otherwise. Railways also gave some relief to monthly pass holders by reverting to 15, instead of 30, the number of trips for which they will have to make payment for travelling unlimited times in a month.

The 45-year-old German legend has been in coma - initially, induced by doctors using powerful drugs - since December 29, 2013 when he sustained severe brain injuries while skiing in the French Alps. The focus will now turn to the extent of his recovery, but doctors say the process could take months if not years.

A sea of orange decorated the streets of Salvador as they celebrated the Netherlands 5-1 thrashing of defending champions Spain at the World Cup.  Draped in their traditional colour, the Dutch supporters were rewarded with a sensational display as their team stormed to the top of Group B.  The Netherlands gaining revenge for their defeat to the same opponents in the 2010 final in South Africa.

The Dutch forward stole in between Sergio Ramos and Jordi Alba to meet a searching Daley Blind cross with a powerful diving header that left goalkeeper Iker Casillas rooted.

After the break the Dutch poured forward and went ahead after 53 minutes when Robben got on the end of another superb Blind lobbed pass before turning Gerard Pique and holding off Sergio Ramos to fire home from seven metres.

The match opened up but in the Netherlands' favour with De Vrij stealing in on 64 minutes at the back post to convert a free kick after Van Persie put Casillas under pressure.

It got worse for Spain as Van Persie added a fourth after taking advantage of a sloppy touch by Casillas to slot home in the 72nd minute and Robben stunned a raucous crowd as he toyed with the Spanish defence and Casillas before belting home in the 80th.

The greatest show on Earth kicks off : FIFA World Cup 2014 Brazil.

Singer Jennifer Lopez, rapper Pitbull and Brazilian popstar Claudia Leitte bounced around the giant stage as they sang the official World Cup song 'We Are One (Ola Ola)' during the opening ceremony.

A cast of 660 dancers paid tribute to the country's nature, people and football with a show around a "living" ball on the Arena de Sao Paulo pitch. Performers dressed as trees, flowers and various musical instruments all performed in three acts over Brazilian music and its looking yellow all over.

Many fans took to the streets to sing and chant their support for Brazil as excitement built in the hours before the tournament began. But there were also demonstrations from those unhappy with the expense of hosting the tournament.

While there was no trouble within the 65,000-seater Arena de Sao Paulo during the opening ceremony, there were complaints about the sound quality.

The opening game of the tournament between Brazil and Croatia kicked off at 21:00 BST, with the hosts coming from behind to win 3-1. Neymar scored twice, with his crucial second coming from a controversial penalty after team-mate Fred fell to the ground under minimal contact

The month-long tournament sees 32 nations compete in 64 games.

Mumbai will move at much faster pace now with metro, time to switch from local train to Metro for Mumbaikar's. Mumbai Metro has taken up nearly 76 months, even as the cost of the project increased from Rs 2356 crore to Rs 4321 crore. It is executed at very low pace and people of Mumbai had to wait very long to get the their first ride. As Mumbai's a city that forgives all, and from today will finally get a chance to travel in a modern mass transit system that's comparable to international ones, so what if it's only 11.4 kms in length, with 12 stations. 

About 2.4 lakh commuters traveled on the first day of the Mumbai metro's operations. Travel time from Versova to Ghatkopar and vice versa will be 21 minutes, with an average speed of 33 kmph, a maximum speed of 80 kmph, even as the system is designed for 90 kmph. A road trip from Versova to Ghatkopar can take around 90 minutes, so 21 minutes is very welcome by Mumbai standards.

It was a record-setting day for Indian markets 6th Jun 2014. The BSE Sensex and Nifty on Friday set a new record by surpassing the previous high of May 16 when the Narendra Modi-led BJP won an overwhelming mandate in elections. The stock market indices also closed at record highs. The Sensex today ended 376 points higher at 25,396 while Nifty closed at 7,583, up 109 points.

Indian markets are on a roll on hopes that the Modi-led government would take quick decision to put the economy back on track. The Nifty is up nearly 30 per cent since September 13, when Mr Modi was named as the BJP's prime ministerial candidate.

The first test of the government's intentions would be the budget, which is likely to be announced in early July. There are no visible near-term negatives. Investors are building portfolios ahead of the Union Budget, which would be the next big event.

The city is witnessing roads repair work at several places and citizens are facing a tough time. But the civic body wants to ensure they travel on better roads next year. In Mumbai road repairs work is like doing an open heart surgery on a person while he is running. 

At present, more than 1,000 roads across the city have been dug up and the hapless citizens can do nothing but curse the authorities for taking up roads repair work at the same time everywhere. Officials claim they have given out contracts for the main roads, and that smaller roads work have been requested by the corporators to use up their funds before the new financial year. Also most political parties want better roads in the city to claim credit before the May election. The result is utter chaos.

The city of Hyderabad will serve as the joint capital of Telangana and the successor state of Andhra Pradesh for up to ten years. The splitting of Andhra Pradesh marks the first time in India's post-Independence history that a "linguistic state" - a state created for speakers of a regional language, in this case Telugu - has been divided.

Hyderabad, one of the 10 districts of Telangana, is the prized asset of the new region as this technology hub will contribute bulk of the revenues. Though Hyderabad will serve as a common capital of Telangana and the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh, its revenues will go to Telangana, of which it is a geographical part. However, outside Hyderabad, Telangana is a backward state.

After their first seven games in IPL 2014, Kolkata Knight Riders had only two wins. Their recovery and charge to the title is a story of belief, assured decision-making, and man management. 

Kings XI was well deserved to crack their first title after their comeback in IPL till date, but KKR took over by ultimate performance in later stages.

Manish Pandey helped Shah Rukh Khan-owned Kolkata Knight Riders win the IPL crown for the second time in three years. Manish Pandey was draftsman of Kolkata's win with 94 from just 50 balls.

Other player Robin Uthappa, with 97 runs from five matches, was 23rd in the list of leading run-getters in the season, 203 behind Glenn Maxwell. In the next 10 matches though, Uthappa added 558 from 10 matches, driving past everyone else in the race
